Rockwood Cottages is a village of housekeeping cottages nestled on the shore of Moosehead Lake in Rockwood, Maine. We are located in the heart of a complete four-season vacation area, an area that has something for everyone to enjoy every season of the year in a natural unspoiled wilderness setting. Here is a beautiful, crystal clear lake, 40 miles long and 20 miles wide, with many large and small islands, sheltered inlets and coves. The surrounding wilderness area has hundreds of miles of wood roads and trails offering visitors a chance to get back into the woods and providing fishermen access to the many ponds, streams and rivers.
Enjoy fishing, swimming, boating, canoeing, sightseeing, wildlife photography, moose safaris, four-wheeling, whitewater rafting on the Kennebec and Penobscot Rivers; climbing and hiking on Kineo, Squaw and Spencer Mountains - or just about anything for those who love the outdoors. Bird and wildlife viewing are fast becoming a favorite way to enjoy the area and beauty of the Moosehead Lake Region!Wilsons’ village of fully equipped housekeeping cottages in the North Woods of Maine is open year round. We are nestled in the woods half a mile off Rte 15 (Rockwood Rd) right on Moosehead Lake and the Kennebec River. All our cottages have a screened porch with views of Moosehead Lake and surrounding mountains. Our cottages range from 1 to 5 bedrooms all with full bathrooms.
Canoeing & Kayaking /Start paddling right from your lakefront cabin, explore Nahmakanta's wild shoreline, see loons, moose and other wildlife
There are... natural sand beaches on the wild, inaccessable shores of Nahmakanta Lake that are so amazing that our guests sometimes ask if the clean, white sands were put there by man! (Nope ! thousands of years ago by glaciers !) Our kayaking and canoeing guests love these isolated beaches for swimming, picnicing or sunbathing. These are just a few of the spectacular features that literally surround our camp. It would take several seasons to hike, paddle and explore all of the natural wonders of the Nahmakanta Area ! We have Rowboats & Canoes at 14 Brooktrout Ponds for our Guests use !
Our nine lakefront and newly restored guest cabins accommodate between 2-8 people. All have sky lights, picture windows that face down the lake, screened porches with rockers, hardwood floors, gas lights and wood stoves with plenty of dry firewood. The smaller cabins have at least one double and one single bed, and the larger cabins have separate bedrooms and toilets.
