The best and most exciting of our nature tours. Imagine you’re huddled along side of a bush as your guide calls out to a bull moose off in the distance. Suddenly, the brush begins crashing and out storms a bull moose only yards from you. Your heart pounds as a 1000 pounds of moose stands so close you can hear him breathe. All this happens while you are surrounded by the peak of our fall foliage here in the north woods of Maine.

Nahmakanta is fantastic moose country ! There is no better area in Maine for seeing moose in their natural surroundings. We have trails and canoes stashed at 14 locations in some of the "moosey-est" spots in the North Woods. As the only year-round residents in the Nahmakanta area, and after 30 years of "thrashing thru the puckerbrush" on foot, on snowshoes, and by canoe, we know the secret moose haunts and backwaters that are largely unknown to the general public. We don't just drive woods roads, where moose usually act unnatural, tame and oblivious to human presence. We guide only small parties (2-4 people) that would prefer to travel into the moose's natural habitat, and observe them feeding and traveling undisturbed. We're also likely to see other wildlife and a variety of birds. Our 9 lake front, newly renovated, guest log cabins accommodate between 2-8 people. All have sky lights, picture windows facing the lake, screened porches, hardwood floors, wood stoves with plenty of dry firewood, gas lights, gas ranges and refrigerators, cooking and eating utensils. Beds have "new" firm mattresses with fresh linens and blankets. Each cabin has at least one double bed, and the larger cabins have a separate bedroom for privacy.
